LTS

At Lutheran Theological Seminary we serve three purposes:

We provide education about Christian thought and leadership for people who want to increase their understanding and skills.

With us, you might take a degree in something general, like the Bible or Christian Theology.  Or, you might opt for a program in a specialized area, like Diaconal Studies.  We offer basic degrees, such as various Master of Theological Studies options.  For more advanced students, we share in the Master of Theology degree offered with Saskatoon Theological Union (STU) partners.  If you don’t have a prior degree, talk to us, because we may be able to admit you based on other educational and life accomplishments.

We train leaders for parish ministry

For over 100 years, LTS has been preparing people to lead churches across Canada and around the world.  Our special focus has been with Lutherans in Western Canada, as our name suggests.  We train people from a broad variety of denominations, however, and make course and practicum arrangements that suit the needs of your religious community.  We have students from around the world and welcome your interest.  The basic degree for training clergy is the Master of Divinity.  For clergy and others in church-related leadership roles, who already have a theology degree, we offer a Doctor of Ministry program that fosters reflection on your ministry.

We offer curriculum for local and lay leadership training

Starting Autumn 2019, through the Lay Academy we will provide ready-to-use materials for training local and lay church leaders.  These course materials take instructors and students through preparation in many aspects of ministry.  The curricula are designed for easy use, so that anyone with a theology degree can teach them.

Lutheran Theological Seminary Saskatoon prepares exceptional men and women for pastoral ministry.

With European roots, North American substance, and fresh energy from global Lutheran ties, we embody a distinctive Canadian Lutheranism even as we embrace diversity.

LTS is an inclusive community and offers hospitality to all who participate in our programs of study. As disciples of Christ committed to public leadership among God’s people in diverse and challenging cultural contexts, we eagerly learn from and welcome one another’s diversity, including, but not limited to, theological perspective, race, ethnicity, nationality, gender identity, relationship status, age, physical ability, social and economic status and sexual orientation.

Together with our Anglican and United Church of Canada partner seminaries in the Saskatoon Theological Union, we form the largest theological faculty in Western Canada, a unique ecumenical- and Canadian-based community of leadership formation.

Our school is situated on the University of Saskatchewan Campus in Saskatoon. We recognize that we are on Treaty 6 Territory, on the traditional gathering land of 31 indigenous peoples and the Homeland of the Metis.
