Monthly summer barbecues aim to foster community and inclusivity
The University of Calgary’s free monthly summer barbecues, hosted by the Lutheran Campus Ministry and Campus United Calgary, have become a cherished tradition aimed at fostering community and inclusivity among students of all backgrounds and faiths.
These cost-free gatherings, which take place on the last Wednesday of each month from April to Aug., offer a welcoming space for students of all backgrounds to connect, enjoy diverse food options and engage in communal activities.

Chaplain, University of Calgary: Rev. Margaret Propp
Margaret has a B.A. in Studio Arts and Chemistry before going to the Lutheran Theological Seminary in Saskatoon to get her M.Div. Ordained into the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada in 2005, Rev. Margaret Propp served as a parish pastor in Davidson, SK before moving to Edmonton – where she was a Chaplain of St. Thomas Health Centre. Recently she moved back to her hometown of Calgary, and serving as the Lutheran interim Chaplain. Margaret has two active boys and a husband who cheers for the Roughrider
s. Pastor Margaret also serves at Historic Trinity Lutheran Church in Calgary.

A Semester of Change — YYC Campus Ministry
“This semester was one of change for the ministry. New places to work from, new people to work with, and new challenges presenting themselves. But new isn’t bad, as this was a semester filled with laughter and fun and deep insightful dialogue with some thoughtful people. We introduced new programs, revamped old ones and are building up a community with many new people. And we are loving it.
It’s part of what makes Campus Ministry work so much fun. Because of the limited nature of school, you only have a short period with great people and then they move on. This also means you are always impacting new people and bringing new voices into the conversation.
