Ecumenical Ministry

The Synod of Alberta and the Territories has two Ecumenical Officers, one in the North and one in the South.

The Northern Ecumenical Officer is Diaconal Minister Faith Nostbakken. contact me.

Faith has a Master of Theological Studies degree (MTS) and a PhD in English Literature, having taught at a university and authored several books. She is a Diaconal Minister of the ELCIC, with a call to the specialized ministry of spiritual direction for the Synod of Alberta and the Territories.

 

The Southern Ecumenical Officer is Rev. Daranne Harris. contact me.

Daranne is currently Vice President & Chief Mission Officer at Bethany Care Society; previously she ministered at Hope Lutheran Church, both organizations in Calgary. Daranne is also a regular contributor to the national publication, The Canada Lutheran.


Reformation Hymn Festival

In the fall of 2016 and the Spring of 2017, the Synod will be hosting hymn festivals in Edmonton and Calgary, celebrating the 500th Anniversary of the Reformation.

FROM CONFLICT TO COMMUNION 2016 Lenten Dialogue poster– 2016 Ecumenical Lenten Dialogues

During the season of Lent, 2016, Lutherans and Roman Catholics met at Providence Renewal Centre (3005-119 Street, NW, Edmonton) on Wednesday evenings for a time of fellowship and dialogue. Each evening began with a presentation, followed by a fellowship break, table dialogue, and concluding  with evening prayer.

The session were on various topics, such as, “Reformation 500 – What is There to Celebrate?” with Rev. Dr. Gordon Jensen; “Contemporary Contexts” with Ecumenical Officers Dr. Julien Hammond and Dr. Faith Nostbakken; “Theological Consideration #1 – Sola Scriptura” with Dr. David Norman and Bishop Don Sjoberg; “Theological Consideration #2 – Sola Fide/Gratia” with Dr. David Goa and Dr. Stephen Martin; “Catholics and Lutherans Today” with Dr. Bob McKeon and Rev. Ingrid Doerschel.
